It’s Hurricane Day! (#1)

Source: Capital Weather Gang

This blog will (unfortunately!) be quiet for the next few days while we wait for Hurricane Sandy to blow through the area.  As internet and power are available I’ll try to post mini-updates if anything hilarious happens.  Knowing us, it probably will.  We surprisingly still have power right now (1:45 p.m. on Monday) but do not expect to keep it for very much longer.  So far we’ve watched We Bought a Zoo (loved it) and are making country-fried steak and sweet potato hash.  I’m not really sure why, but it seemed like a good idea so we’re just going with it.

For supplies, we’ve stuffed our freezer with water bottles (it will keep the inside cooler longer) and have the following rations (all purchased by H while I was in meetings yesterday afternoon and evening):

  • One large bag of puffy Cheetos;
  • 2 Liters of Cranberry-splash Sierra Mist;
  • 1.5 Liters of Gin and a bottle of diet tonic water; and
  • One bottle red wine and one bottle white wine.

Luckily, I also bought some canned food and soup when I was at the store a few days back, and we have several friends who are much more responsible than we are so we’ll head to their places if the power stays out for more than a day or two.

Please stay safe.  Be smart, don’t run around with your shirt off wearing a giant horse head in the middle of a hurricane.  [But if you do, please record it and send it my way!!]  If you’re local to DC and checking the weather here, the most reliable source (in my opinion) is the Post’s Capital Weather Gang.  They have an hour-by-hour plan that is on the money.
